San Diego County Waives Permit Fees for Accessory Dwelling Units

On January 9th, 2019 the San Diego County Board of Supervisors has waived all permit fees for accessory dwelling units in the unincorporated areas of the County. This will save you between $10,000 to $15,000 in fees if you build an Accessory Dwelling Unit. The accessory dwelling units are also known as granny flats or guest living quarters.

The waiver of the permit fees is a trial run that will last 5 years until the beginning of 2024. During that time the following fees are waived:

  • Building permit fees.
  • Onsite wastewater fees.
  • Development impact fees.
  • Park Fees.
  • Traffic impact fees.
  • Drainage Fees.
