What is an Accessory Dwelling Unit?
An Accessory Dwelling Unit is a secondary home on the same property as the main primary residence. With the new California state law change you can now have an Accessory Dwelling Unit on your property. Your ADU can be up to 1200 sqft, be attached or detached, and have a FULL size kitchen. There are also plenty of benefits when owning an Accessory Dwelling Unit! It’s a great option for aging family members that you want to keep close by. It’s awesome for out of town family members staying with you, visiting college kids, or anyone that has kids that are still trying to get on their feet and their own place. Another great option is you can also rent out your ADU. Before the California state law change you had to live in the primary residence in order to rent out your Accessory Dwelling Unit. That problem is now no longer an issue! You can now rent out either your primary residence, accessory dwelling unit, or both.
