Air Sealing with Siga Weather Sealing Tape | Energy Efficient Homes

Being Conscious of Energy Efficiency

Good morning. It’s Bill Freeman with Freeman’s Construction. We’re here on a job in Ramona. And this is actually the house Brandon Freeman, my son, is building for himself. He’s actually the one that’s filming me right now. But anyway, I wanted to show you guys a product that we’re starting to use now in the homes. We’re trying to be very conscious of keeping these homes energy efficient and one of the best ways to do that is to keep the air sealed up as best we can. And there’s some products that we’re starting to use now that really help a lot in that.

Siga Weather Sealing Tape

One of the leakiest spots in the house is the fill in between the foundation and the bottom plate. You can see right here this tape that we put on, this is a tape that’s made by Siga and has a good adhesive back on both sides. It really blocks the air filtration. This is a little different color as they’ve just changed the color of them. But as you can see, it has a two part backing that comes off, so it makes it really easy to put on.

  1. You peel off the backing.
  2. Stick the tape near the bottom first.
  3. Then pull the other backing from the tape off and stick it up to the top.

Good Adhesion from Siga Tape & Energy Efficiency

And you can see how sticky this is. See my finger on there? How hard it’s pulling that? So, it has a really good adhesion and then the other thing it has is on the back here, it has these fibers in the tape itself so that what we do is that we’ll come in here and we’ll skim coat this with a light texture, stucco texture and then all this glues really nicely and then the siding comes down over that. The Tyvek wrap comes down and then it goes over this and then this is sealed off and then we’ll cover this up to finish this off real nice. So, it’s just another way that we’re trying to keep our houses airtight and much more energy efficient.

Have a great day.
